Established in January 2002, MOWIS is comprised of a consortium of national and international partners from meteorology, software development, mobile services, content management and marketing.

MOWIS has many years of experience in the management of multimedia production, editing and marketing of content.  MOWIS uses innovative concepts for diverse media markets such as TV, internet and mobile usage. The premise for the formation of this company was to be able to supply highly qualitative informational products. Development of these products was intended for usage by a generation of upwardly mobile people.

MOWIS has been formally recognized in the international business community.  Accolades include being an I2B winner, a winner of the GO! Founder initiative and being honored in 2003 with a nomination at the Austrian state prize for Multimedia and eBusiness. Furthermore, MOWIS received federal research grants or projects from the FFG, the BMVIT, the RTR, as well as grants and projects from the government of Upper Austria including the Rudolf Trauner foundation prize in 2004.

For many years, MOWIS has maintained strategic partnerships with the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG), the RISC Institute of the University of Linz/Software Park Hagenberg.  (both of which were extensively involved in the technological developments  and since 2006, with DIMOCO - Direct Mobile Communication GmbH.

Today, the team of MOWIS GmbH covers the broad spectrum of information technology in Austria.  It continues to demonstrate market leadership through key web properties such as "wetter.at" which is one of the most popular sites in Austria.
